Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 5, 2026

Range ("we," "us") makes a golf practice and social app for iOS. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

Summary

What we collect

Account & profile. When you sign in with Apple we receive a stable user identifier and, on first sign-in only, the name you choose to share. You create a public profile: username, display name, and optionally a bio, home course, handicap index, and avatar. We do not request your email address.

Social activity. People you follow, groups you join, posts/activities you publish, comments, "kudos," and any reports or blocks you submit. Your profile, posts, and comments are visible to other Range users.

Golf data. Practice sessions, shots, club distances, rounds and scores, scorecards, and — if you use it — swing videos. Rounds and live-round scoring sync via Apple iCloud/CloudKit under your Apple ID. Practice data and swing videos are stored on your device (and in your private iCloud where applicable); swing videos are not uploaded to our social backend.

Location. When you use location features — finding nearby courses, showing your position on the on-course map, and (optionally) tagging shot locations during a round — we use your device's precise location. We use it in the moment for those features; we do not track you in the background or store a location history.

AI features. When you use AI coaching, scan a scorecard, or analyze a swing, we send the relevant content (your practice notes/stats, the scorecard image, or selected swing frames) to our AI provider (Anthropic) through our own secure server to generate feedback. This content is processed to produce your result and is not used to train third-party models.

Push notifications. If you enable notifications, we store a device push token to deliver alerts (new followers, kudos, live-round invites).

Diagnostics. We may collect crash and performance diagnostics from Apple (via MetricKit) to fix bugs. These are not tied to your identity.

How we use data

To provide and operate the app: authenticate you, show your feed and profiles, sync and score rounds, generate AI feedback, send notifications you opt into, maintain a safe community (process reports/blocks), and diagnose crashes.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Data retention & deletion

Your data persists while your account is active. Deleting your account (in the app) permanently removes your profile and social data (posts, comments, follows, groups, reports, blocks) from our backend, and revokes access. Locally stored practice data is removed when you delete the app; round data in your private iCloud is governed by your Apple ID settings.

Children

Range is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We don't knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g., GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to certain processing. The in-app account deletion covers deletion; for other requests contact us at support@rangegolf.app.

Security

We use Apple's platform security, authenticated access, and row-level security on our backend so users can only access data they're permitted to. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

Changes

We'll update this policy as the app evolves and revise the effective date. Material changes will be surfaced in-app.
